It is important that muscles are stretch before and after exercise, especially if a specific muscle has been used during the performance of a particular movement.
For example, during a shoulder press the deltoids play a major part in the execution of the movement. Thus, this area should be stretched thoroughly prior and after the exercise.
Purpose
To loosen the shoulders and increase blood flow.
Muscles involved
The shoulders and the Tricep muscles of the upper arms.
Performance guidelines
• Place one arm across your body.
• Hold the arm out in a relaxed - straight manner.
• Place the opposite hand on this arm's elbow.
• Pull in the elbow as close as possible to body.
• Hold for 20 - 30 seconds. Repeat 2 - 3 times.
• Remember to stretch both shoulders.
