Neck stretching

Stretch your neck - Neck stretching

It is important that muscles are stretch before and after exercise, especially if a specific muscle has been used during the performance of a particular movement.

For example, during all dynamic movements the neck supports the head and a strong neck can aid balance. Thus, this area should be stretched thoroughly prior and after exercise.

Purpose

To loosen tight muscles in the neck and upper back region.

Muscles involved

The neck complex as well as the trapezium muscles of the back.

Performance guidelines

• Relax your neck muscles.
• Place one hand at the side of your head.
•Slowly lean your head to the side.
•Use your hand to increase the stretch range
•Hold for 20 - 30 seconds. Repeat 2 - 3 times.
•Remember to stretch both sides of your neck.
