It is important that muscles are stretch before and after exercise, especially if a specific muscle has been used during the performance of a particular movement.

For example, during running the hamstrings play a major part in the execution of the movement. Thus, this area should be stretched thoroughly prior and after the exercise.

Purpose

To increase the range of motion of the legs.

Muscles involved

The hamstrings are a muscle group located in the upper legs.

Performance guidelines

• Place one foot in front of the other.
• Lift the toes of the front foot. This leg is kept straight.
•Bend the back leg and lean into the front leg.
•Place your hands on the front knee for balance.
•Hold for 20 - 30 seconds. Repeat 2 - 3 times.
•Remember to stretch both legs.
